Scholarship Criteria

Criteria for the Ron Settles Memorial Foundation 2021 Scholarship

 

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must be: 

  • A graduating high school senior

  • A U.S. citizen or legal resident who is Black/African American

  • A Shelby County resident of Shelby County, TN; or Los Angeles County, CA; or a student attending a high school within the City of Atlanta, GA 

  • Seeking undergraduate degrees in education and criminal justice programs including, but not limited to political science, pre-law, law enforcement administration, corrections, and criminology

  • and have a GPA of at least 2.25 on a 4.0 scale

 

All Applicants must also submit:

  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher or school counselor

  • An admissions essay submitted to a college application portal (i.e. Common App, etc.)

  • A written response explaining your connection to the Ron Settles story. Responses must be fewer than 350 words.

 

Applications will be available beginning January 20th, 2021 through March 15, 2021. Priority may be given to students applying to HBCUs. Should students advance to the interview round, they must provide a letter of acceptance to an academic program prior to the interview.
Candidates moving forward to the interview phase will be notified by April 15th, 2021, and final awardees will be announced by May 31st 2021.
